Suspect arrested for unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition and dangerous weapons

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Monday, March 14 on charges of being in possession of a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a rifle with ammunition, and trespassing.

Two field rangers at Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve in Skukuza were camping in the area at 22:00 when they spotted two suspected poachers with firearms.

The field rangers then approached the suspects and instructed them to stop. However, one suspect fled while the other surrendered and was captured by the rangers.

According to reports, the male suspect was found with a hunting rifle, eight live rounds, a knife, a food pack, and a silencer in his possession.

Police at Skukuza were alerted, and the man was arrested and charged. Despite this, one of the suspects remains at large. Police are appealing to the public for information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest by contacting Detective Constable Eclass Masiya via 076 082 5074 or calling Crime Stoppers on 08600 10111.
