KaNyamazane residents enraged over sewage issues

The leaking sewer is a health hazard to members of the public.

Since Friday afternoon, May 27, residents of Kanyamazane Ext 5 (also known as Spot 5) have had to endure the foul odour of a leaking sewer and human waste on the street.

The leak in Lihansi Sihlengele Street, according to the residents of Ext 5, is a health threat because of the stench, which is terrible because they inhale “tainted oxygen” and have to dodge human faeces when walking down the street.

The spokesperson for Silulumanzi, Richmond Jele, said, “A job card has just been issued today, May 30, because the problem was never reported. Our team has been dispatched to attend to it now. An overflowing manhole usually occurs when objects are thrown into the sewer lines and that causes blockages.

“Community members must remember that objects must not be thrown into the sewer lines. They are encouraged to report any blockages as soon as possible to our relevant offices through our call centre to fast-track assistance by our maintenance teams.”
