Master introduces taekwondo in churches

Following the recent spate of killings and abductions of children and women in the province, karateka, Master Walter Botha, is arming children with self-defence skills.

The fourth dan black belt is giving karate lessons to children and young women in the area of KaBokweni and surroundings.

“I will try to engage all pastors around the area so that the programme can be embraced and adopted by churches and the entire community. This will help involve all women and Sunday schoolchildren so that they can be trained at an early age.

This will also help build well mannered, disciplined characters so that they become true leaders of tomorrow. Above everything else, I want them to know to protect themselves when they are attacked,” he said.

Botha also said that if children are taught discipline at a young age, they will grow up with good morals and manners.

“I believe that the crimes, rapes and murders that are taking place around the country are something that those criminals learned at a young age. So, if we target young children and teach them discipline and character development while they are still young, they will grow up knowing what is right and wrong and it will be the right step in winning this war,” said Botha.
