Matsulu man survives house fire

The man suffered severe injuries to his legs and arms.

A 44-year-old man was severely injured when his house in Matsulu C caught fire. Victor Mashego is still counting his lucky stars following this incident.

According to his sister, Cynthia, all their belongings burnt to ashes on Saturday July 2. “My brother was alone in the house. I believe he turned on the hot plate to warm the house in the morning as usual, and then load-shedding took place around midday. It seems as if the fridge exploded and ignited the fire when the electricity came back on,” Cynthia said.

“I do not stay with him. I was alerted of the incident by his children who live nearby. When I arrived, everything was burnt. My brother was rushed to the clinic and later transferred to Rob Ferreira Hospital,” she said.

Cynthia is at ease that Victor seems to be healing well. “He can talk a little and open his eyes, but his arms and legs are severely injured. At the moment, I am concerned about how I am going to help him. He will not have a home to go to when he is discharged,” she said.

Cynthia is seeking the public’s help to rebuild their family house. “Someone with a good heart has offered to have the windows installed. The travelling to the hospital has also left me stranded. If there is anyone who is willing to help with anything, please call me on 079 740 3188 or 079 607 9028.”
