MEC calls for child safety during the festive season
MEC Jackie Macie strongly urged parents not to allow children to consume alcohol.
Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison Jackie Macie has urged parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their children over the holiday period. He warned that heightened excitement can lead to neglect, making children vulnerable to traffickers, molesters and alcohol consumption.
“We have seen children drinking on social media. This is unacceptable, parents must stay vigilant – there are predators waiting for any lapse,” said Macie.
Macie also advised those leaving their homes during this time to have a relative stay or ask neighbours to monitor their properties, as criminals often target vacant houses during the festive season.

He again reiterated the importance of road safety.
“Drink at home, or only when you won’t need to drive. Buckle children up, remain patient and adjust driving to weather conditions. Drunk driving will not be tolerated,” Macie concluded.
