IN PHOTOS: Mpumalanga Sports Awards host sports clinic for schoolchildren in Mbombela

The aim of the clinic was to involve children in different sporting codes.

Just a few weeks ahead of the highly anticipated Mpumalanga Sports Awards, the organisers of this event had children in the sun enjoying various kinds of sporting codes during a sports clinic at Curro Academy on Saturday September 3.

The Mpumalanga Sports Awards are about celebrating local individuals and stakeholders who have done well in the world of sports and developing upcoming Mpumalanga sports stars. The aim of the clinic was to encourage schoolchildren to participate in rugby, netball and soccer for boys and girls.

As exciting as it was, the youngsters were thrilled to try new sporting codes. Girls of Vulamasango Primary School in KaNyamazane said it was their first time playing rugby and hoped to continue playing it. “Rugby looks tricky, but we are up for the challenge. We appreciate the chance to learn something new,” said one of the girls, Christina Maseko.

The sports clinic saw a well-recorded attendance of about 200 children from schools in the Mbombela and Umjindi circuits. Coaches and stakeholders attended enthusiastically to learn from the experts Mpumalanga Sports Awards had organised.
