Police in Elukwatini investigate mysterious death of mother and toddler
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the bodies is under way.
The Elukwatini police said they are investigating the mysterious death of a 36-year-old woman and her three-year-old son. According to a statement released on Wednesday January 4, the SAPS was notified by community members on Tuesday January 3 around 17:00 about the gruesome recovery of two bodies at their residential home in Nhlazatshe 4.

A Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said, “The police and emergency personnel responded to the call. Upon arrival they discovered the body of the woman. Next to her was an electric cord. The minor’s body was found in the bathroom with a foam-like substance in the mouth. Both of them were unfortunately certified dead on the scene. A murder case with an additional charge of inquest is being investigated by the police.”

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, said she is disturbed by the incident.
Manamela called on members of the public to seek professional assistance whenever they are overwhelmed with life’s challenges, especially during this time of the year. She said she wants to assure people that the team of investigators that have been assigned to this case will work towards uncovering the truth surrounding the mysterious deaths.
