New mayor and speaker appointed for Mkhondo Local Municipality

Cllr Ngelosi Ndlovu is the ANC’s newly appointed executive mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality.

A special council meeting headed by the Mpumalanga MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs, Mandla Msibi, led to a new mayor being appointed for Mkhondo Local Municipality.

Cllr Ngelosi Ndlovu was sworn in as the new executive mayor on Wednesday January 25.

The meeting also saw Cllr Zweli Ngwenya appointed as the speaker of council.

The ANC in the Gert Sibande region said in a statement the meeting was a result of two previous failed attempts undertaken earlier this month.

The speaker and the municipal manager had allegedly turned down a request to constitute a special meeting for a motion of a vote of no confidence in both the former mayor, Cllr Mthokozisi Simelane, and the former speaker, Cllr Melusi Dlamini.
