The Mpumalanga Department of Health conducted a two-day workshop on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCD) at Emnotweni, Mbombela on February 14 and 15.

This programme was supported by the national Department of Health (DoH) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The DoH’s spokesperson, Dumisani Malamule, said, “The purpose of this workshop is to develop a NCD plan that is envisaged to move the province closer to sustainable development, to reduce premature mortality by one third through prevention and treatment, and to promote mental health and well-being by 2030.

“The implementation plan will lay a foundation that will ensure early identification, diagnosis and treatment of non-communicable diseases, through screening, testing and treatment of NCDs at a community level.”
