World Gold Panning Championships in Pilgrim’s Rest to boost tourism sector

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency has encouraged tourists to visit many attractions during the championships in Pilgrim’s Rest.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) anticipate tourists from at least 20 countries to hit Mpumalanga for the 2023 World Gold Panning Championships held in Pilgrim’s Rest.

This massive event, hosted by the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation is set to begin from Sunday August 8 until Saturday August 12.

MTPA’s spokesperson, Simphiwe Shungube, said this event will allow local entrepreneurs to showcase their products to tourists, strengthen the local economy and create job opportunities.

“The Mpumalanga province as a premium tourism destination is ready to host all tourists attending the championships. Tourists can enjoy various tourism attractions surrounding Pilgrim’s Rest which will make their stay more memorable.”

He said the agency is working with all strategic partners to ensure that tourists have a memorable and safe stay during their visit.
