Minister in the presidency unveils state-of-the-art radio station in KaNyamazane
The revamped broadcasting studio forms part of the MDDA’s mission to support local media throughout South Africa, the minister said.

The minister in the presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, led the unveiling of the brand-new state-of-the-art broadcasting studio for KaNyamazane’s radio station, K Radio, on January 9.
She was joined by the deputy minister in the presideny, Nomasonto Motaung, the Media Development and Diversity Agency’s (MDDA) board chairperson, Prof Hlengani Mathebula, and the executive mayor of the City of Mbombela, Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko.
Ntshavheni said community media has become a vital part of any society, as it ensures that communities are represented and reflected as part of a diverse nation. The unveiling of the new K Radio signifies the MDDA’s mission to support the development of a vibrant, innovative and people-centred community media sector.

“Local radio stations engage people of different cultures and backgrounds, and through the use of indigenous languages such as Siswati, advances dialogue and promotes participatory democracy. The majority of predominately black communities did not have media platforms such radio stations broadcasting in indigenous languages. It is important that these broadcasters are uplifted so they can communicate relevant information effectively and be the voice of the community they serve.”
She said uplifting community broadcasters aligns with the aims of the government to ease service delivery, communication between communities and government, and the promotion of arts and local talents.

In her message of support, Makushe-Mazibuko said the local government appreciated the opportunity given to the station to be uplifted and to become one of the best broadcasters in Mpumalanga.
“We will be able to educate and inform the communities in KaNyamazane and surrounds as we support the radio stations. We urge them to take care of the radio station so that it can be a generational beacon for the community,” she said.
