Music and cultural festival to grace Hazyview

The festival’s goal is to bring together various African music genres and cultural heritage activities to promote the African identities in Hazyview’s communities.

The Hazyview Music Festival and Cultural Esprimo is set to bring communities together to enjoy music while opening business opportunities to locals. It will be held at Spincity in Numbi on February 3.

According to the organiser, Leisure Lekhuleni, the festival is aimed to integrate multiple African music genres and cultural heritage activities to embrace Africanism in the local communities of Hazyview.

“This is an event that has the potential to cover its expenses and create jobs for a large number of young arts practitioners, tourism practitioners and empower small local businesses. The concept of our project is to embrace the beauty and pride of different South African cultures through music, dance, visual arts, crafts and cultural heritage activities,” he said.

Lekhuleni added that the festival will create an influential platform for artists and overall arts and cultural heritage practitioners who are active participants in the sector to showcase their talents to the public.

“We will also identify young talented emerging artists who still aspire to become well established in the industry, to be given an opportunity to form part of the project. It is also a poverty alleviation programme that seeks to create jobs for artists and cultural heritage participants who reside in Hazyview’s rural communities. We are also committed to empower local arts entrepreneurs and small businesses to sell their products.”

Lekhuleni said the project has the potential to stimulate the economy in the area. Tourism companies will also be engaged to bring tourists to the event so they can learn more about the different cultures.
