Police recover 711kg of dagga in Burgersfort
The SAPS confiscated the dagga and the Toyota Hilux bakkie.

The Burgersfort SAPS, along with members of the local farm watch, intercepted a bakkie transporting 711kg of compressed dagga worth more than R5m on the R37.

The discovery was made at about 20:30 on April 12 during the Rural Safety SAPS Operation.

“We were still getting ready for the roadblock when a Toyota Hilux bakkie travelling to the Burgersfort direction from Lydenburg was stopped at the Morone Farms. The driver got out of the car, fled the scene and dissapeared into the bushes. We discovered 13 big bags of dagga and 46 small plastic wrapped bags inside the bakkie canopy,” revealed one of the SAPS members who was part of the operation.

According to the SAPS, the 711kg of dagga can be worth more than R5m.

The management of SAPS thanked the local communities and farmers who always assist during roadblocks.
Police urged the community to work closely with the SAPS to fight crime in and around Burgersfort .
