Provincial Traditional Health Practitioners Forum launched in Hlazatshe

The Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, said the new forum members that were elected will now do the work that was done by their predecessors.

The MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini, launched Provincial Traditional Health Practitioners Forum at Hlazatshe 4, Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality, on Tuesday May 7.

“The launch marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards embracing tradition, fostering unity, and advancing holistic healthcare for all.
“This endeavour represents not only a step forward in recognising the invaluable contributions of traditional health practitioners, but also a commitment to ensuring holistic and inclusive healthcare for all our citizens.

The policy on traditional medicine in South Africa marks a pivotal moment in our journey towards recognising and embracing the rich tapestry of healing traditions that make up our healthcare landscape,” Manzini explained.

“By formalising the role of traditional health practitioners within our healthcare system, we not only honour the legacy of our ancestors, but also pave the way for a more inclusive and integrated approach to healthcare delivery. The Alma Ata Declaration of 1978 was a landmark moment in global health, recognising the vital role of traditional health practitioners in primary healthcare.”

“Today, we build upon that legacy as we embark on the establishment of traditional health practitioners’ governance structures across our province. The 2019 structure’s term of office has expired, and the new team will continue with the work,” said Manzini .
