Safa Ehlanzeni hands over essential soccer kits to Hollywood League teams

This donation comes at a time when the teams are preparing for their play-offs in a mini tournament.

There was much excitement as the Ehlanzeni’s South African Football Association (Safa) distributed some essential soccer kits to the four teams who were crowned champions and runners-up in their respective streams or leagues presided by this football controlling body.

The four teams, Acornhoek United, Liver Brothers, Junior Callies and KaMhlushwa Real Madrid participated in the Hollywoodbets Regional League in the Mgwenya and Kruger streams.

The kit handover took place at the Mbombela Stadium on Thursday June 6.

In the beginning of the season, Safa made available 16 soccer kits and made it clear that they would be given to the four teams finishing on position one and two in each stream.

Jabu Nzima, Ehlanzeni Safa’s deputy president, said as these four teams go for play-offs, they get a different jersey colour from their usual home kits. He said they want the teams to have alternatives.

“These teams who are receiving the kits today are those who finished on top of the log in their streams. They will be joined by those who finished as runners-up. The four teams will play against one another in the play-offs to determine who gains promotion to the next upper league,” said Nzima.

In his message of encouragement to the teams, he said they should continue to perform well and carry themselves with the discipline they showed throughout the season.

He then said to those who didn’t receive the kits that they should remain positive, and their turn will come too when they perform well.

Amu Gazide, chairperson of Liver Brothers FC from Kildare, Bushbuckridge, said he was glad they were among those who received the new kits, and that his team will be participating in the play-offs.

“We are happy with what Safa is doing for us, because the issue of lacking enough kits is a challenge. We previously received them when we were in the top four, and now we have qualified because we are number one,” said Gazide.

He is one of the province’s youngest soccer bosses and his team is currently doing well and is accredited for giving local soccer players from the Bushbuckridge area a platform to showcase their talent.

He said the new kit is much-needed as they will use them when they play over weekends. He said he wishes the local government and businesses would come and support them.
