Seven schoolchildren struck by vehicle on KaBokweni Road

Exactly a week after six Middelburg teenagers tragically lost their lives in a school bus accident, another seven children fell victim to a pedestrian vehicle accident near KaBokweni.

A pedestrian vehicle accident on the KaBokweni Road in which seven school learners were hit late yesterday afternoon, August 7, shook the local community.

It is understood the children were walking home from school between KaBokweni and Khambula when the incident happened.

This on the same day as the memorial service to honour the six teenagers who tragically passed away last Wednesday, July 31, in the Middelburg area when their school bus had crashed into a moving Transnet train.

Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey said the volatility of the scene necessitated swift action to stabilise and treat the patients before they were transported to the KaBokweni Provincial Hospital and Mediclinic Nelspruit for further care.

Injuries ranged from minor to moderate, but nothing serious. Upon departure, the various emergency services handed the scene over to the police for further investigation.
