Department of Basic Education gives anxiety management tips for matrics awaiting results
The DBE advises learners to push away negative thoughts by engaging in interesting activities or hobbies.

As the day of the matric results’ release approaches, many are waiting in anticipation to find out their fate.
The results will officially be released on Monday, January 13, and the MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, will announce the provincial results at the Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall the next day.
Meanwhile, the Department of Basic Education released a statement to offer some tips on how to manage the exam result anxiety. It encouraged the learners to engage in mindfulness and relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation or exercise.
“By shifting the emphasis to the present moment, relaxation techniques encourage a sense of peace and lower anxiety levels.”

It also encouraged learners to divert their focus away from negative thoughts by engaging in interesting activities or hobbies. Spending time with friends, reading books or watching movies are positive ways to stop anxiety-inducing thoughts.
The learners were also advised to take part in self-care activities, such as getting adequate sleep, eating nutritious foods, staying hydrated and exercising on a regular basis.
