Three minibuses used to transport mineworkers torched in Badplaas

It is unknown who torched the vehicles, but the matter was reported to the police

Three minibuses used to transport mineworkers to Inkomati Nickel Mine in Machadodorp were torched at their parking lot in Badplaas today, Wednesday, February 19, at around 01:00.

No one knows who torched the vehicles that belong to Pro Instrumentation, Construction and Maintenance (PICM).

The PICM project administrator, Valerie Steensma, told Lowveld Media that the company operates from Randfontein in Gauteng and parked their vehicles in Badplaas.

“The minibuses were used to transport employees of Inkomati Nickel Mine. We have no idea who might be behind this arson or for what reason,” said Steensma.

One of the minibuses was burnt out.

Steensma said there were disgruntled members of the community who had gone to Machadodorp and blocked all roads leading to the mine this morning, but that she still did not know the reasons why they did so.

“We are in the dark. We do not know what is going on and we have reported the matter to the Badplaas Police Station for investigations,” said Steensma.

Attempts to get comment from community members in Badplaas proved fruitless.

Lowveld Media reached out to the provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, for comment, but she had not done so at the time of publication.
