Mpumalanga MECs for health and public works pay oversight visits to new facilities
The Mpumalanga MEC for public works visited the state-of-the-art new Middelburg hospital, the Mkhondo Boarding School and the Thandukukhanya Library during his project management assessment programme.
The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, and the MEC for public works, roads and transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, visited the new Middelburg District Hospital in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality on Wednesday, February 12, as part of the project management assessment programme currently under way across the province.
According to public works, the hospital is an achievement that showcases its dedication to delivering quality mega-infrastructure initiatives. This state-of-the-art hospital is one of the major infrastructure development projects in the province that the department is currently building on behalf of the Department of Health. The hospital will offer advanced clinical and non-clinical facilities, alongside extensive external works.

The visit began with a meeting between the departments and various stakeholders, and was then followed by an on-site inspection of the project’s progress. Thomo said: “With the project nearing practical completion, we commend the project team for their outstanding work. The progress to date is a significant milestone, and we are now focused on ensuring the practical handover is carried out timely and without delays.”

On February 11, Thomo visited Mkhondo Boarding School and Thandukukhanya Library. “With the significant progress made towards these two projects’ completion, we are confident the practical handover of them to the client departments, the Department of Education and the Department of Sports, Culture and Recreation, is now within reach,” said Thomo.
