Hospital in Nkomazi performs life-changing eye-care procedures
The Mpumalanga Department Health said it will continue to conduct the cataract operation campaign throughout the year.

The Tonga Hospital recently performed 134 cataract operations. Sixty-seven of these were performed on patients from the Ehlanzeni District and the rest on patients from Nkangala.
According to the Mpumalanga Department of Health (DoH), the hospital has consistently demonstrated its capacity and capabilities as a provincial eye-care centre. It will continue to conduct this cataract operation campaign throughout the year to restore vision to visually impaired patients.

The DoH’s spokesperson, Dumisani Malamule, said another group of eye-care patients from the Delmas and Witbank hospitals arrived to receive their surgeries between February 28 and March 1.
“Some patients, who had been visually impaired, returned home extremely happy following the operation. They expressed how they felt like they had undergone a transformation and have been reborn.
“They went on to praise the staff for the excellent treatment, food and successful operations, and expressed their gratitude to the department and the MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, of her excellent leadership in prioritising young and old to enjoy adequate access to healthcare services in the province,” said Malamule.
