Secunda Afropop musician aims to heal hearts

This talented musician recently released a new single, "Gijima Khosi". He said there is more to come in the near future.

With a special sound and new fresh music, an Afropop singer-songwriter is taking the music industry by storm.

Themba Mokoena, also known as EM Vocal, recently released a new single titled “Gijima Khosi”.

“I have more plans to release music with videos that I hope will cement my name in the music industry and garner recognition for awards,” he said.
Mokoena said his music carries a message of hope and healing.

“Music is not just entertainment to me, but a platform for healing and education. I believe this gives me a reputation of a musical healer. When I write my lyrics, I go with my feelings or a situation I am going through at that time. It is rare to find no message in my songs.”

His music has an African touch mixed with different traditional elements, including maskandi.

He released his latest album, Indodana ka Ntombi, in August last year.

Mokoena said he discovered his music talent by chance. “I would sing anything out of the blue and whoever is next to me, would tell me I am a good singer. That is how I realised I can sing, and then I decided to venture into music professionally. My unique vocabulary and pronunciation adds a distinctive touch to my songs,” he said.

Mokoena mentioned Sjava and the legendary Michael Jackson as a big influence in his music career.
“Regardless of the challenges I have faced in marketing myself as a musician, I did not give up. I reached out on social media for a wider audience. I saw my hard work pay off when I landed collaboration opportunities with notable musicians Intaba Yase Dubai and Nomfundo Moh. As I continue to rise to fame, I am committed to using my music for positive impact in the world,” Mokoena said.
