A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for the attempted murder of his teen cousin.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the attempted murder of his cousin (15) in Langkloof, Verena.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his cheek and was admitted to a hospital on April 5.

“During the investigations, it then indicated that the suspect had somehow stolen his father’s safe keys from the wardrobe and removed the firearm from the safe. It also said that the suspect was playing with the firearm when a shot went off, hitting the cousin.

The boy was taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. The suspect was taken to the Verena Police Station. The suspect’s father has also been charged for negligent handling of a firearm,” Ndubane said.

Ndubane said the suspect has been released to the care of his parents and is expected to appear in the Mkobola Magistrate’s Court in Kwaggafontein on Wednesday, April 9.
