49-year-old Klipkapstel man gets life sentence for killing his girlfriend
The convict, Anthony Michael Mazibuko, committed the offence last year.
The Mpumalanga High Court sitting in Breyten has sentenced Anthony Michael Mazibuko (49) to life in prison for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Mbali Nelly Mokgawa (28). The sentence was handed down on May 28.
According to the Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Ext 6, Standerton, on May 24 last year.
“It was revealed that the victim received a phone call from the father of her two children while in the presence of the accused, which led to a heated argument,” said Ndubane.

She said a violent altercation took place. Concerned neighbours alerted the police. When they arrived the following morning, the officers discovered Mokgawa’s body and the suspect was arrested at the scene. “Mbali had sustained multiple injuries and a case of murder was opened at the Standerton Police Station.
“The accused remained in custody throughout the court proceedings. The diligent investigation conducted by the assigned detective in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority, ensured that justice was served. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Ndubane.
