Taxi operators participate in skills development at KaBokweni Taxi Rank

The event aimed to educate taxi operators on good hygiene practices, road safety and advanced driving.

More than 100 taxi operators attended an informative training session at the KaBokweni Taxi Rank on Sunday, August 3. The aim of this initiative was to help taxi drivers by giving them professional advanced driving lessons, educating them about safety on the road, informing them about good hygiene and teaching communication skills to benefit passengers and other road users.

This event was hosted by the KaBokweni Taxi Association (KTA) in collaboration with the South African National Taxi Council. It was attended by the Ngodwana Taxi Association and the Topstar Taxi Association.

The Transport Education and Training Authority provincial manager, Masana Hobyani, said they can’t be left behind when it comes to promoting safety in the community and on the roads.

“We support the taxi industry through funding and give them an opportunity to be trained in professional driving,”she said.

The KTA deputy chairperson, Kobby Nyalunga, said they are lagging behind in their standard of professionalism. He added that they were pleased with the attendance of taxi operators. “We want to teach our drivers how to treat and communicate with passengers living with disabilities. We want to and improve the communication between drivers and passengers,” said Nyalunga.

According to Mandla Ngomane of the KTA, the training is important and will make an impact. “We appreciate all the efforts made by our leaders,” said Ngomane.

He said it would be good if passengers and operators respected one another. “If we can both be patient, we will be able to travel to our destinations with ease.”
