Mpumalanga Education Department leads matric pledge for exam integrity
The pledge initiative aims to ensure that matric pupils understand what is expected of them during the 2025 National Senior Certificate exams.
Grade 12 learners at Cyril Clarke Secondary School in Mbombela signed a pledge of good conduct last Friday, October 17, as part of the Mpumalanga Department of Education’s initiative to ensure matric pupils understand what is required of them during the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.
The event included a prayer session and talks from speakers invited to motivate the learners, including representatives of various higher learning institutions.

The head of the learner representative council, Junior Mungwambe, told his fellow matrics that this was the opportunity of a lifetime and encouraged them to make the most of it. Reflecting on the class size, he noted that the cohort started with 251 learners and now totalled 248, emphasising that every learner should make their presence in class count.
The MEC for education, Lindi Masina, visited Mafa Max Motloung Secondary School in Delmas to lead the signing of the pledge on Friday. She urged learners to stay focused, disciplined, and determined to achieve excellence, contributing to the province’s goal of improved learner performance.
Masina appealed to parents and guardians to provide support, encouragement, and a conducive study environment, highlighting that success in the examinations requires both hard work and family support.
Department spokesperson Jasper Zwane said the pledge represents a commitment by learners to uphold honesty, integrity and discipline throughout the exams.
“It reinforces the importance of adhering to examination rules while promoting ethical conduct and preventing irregularities,” Zwane added.
