City of Mbombela takes to the streets for 15-day service blitz

Under the banner of ‘Kubhunya Lutfuli’, the municipality deployed field teams for a 15-day marathon of pothole repairs, road grading, and lighting restoration.

The City of Mbombela embarked on a 15-day Kubhunya Lutfuli Massive Mayoral Imbizo from Monday, May 4, delivering infrastructure services to the Nsikazi region.

The acting Executive Mayor, William Nkatha, addressed Nsikazi residents at Matsulu Community Hall, with proceedings live-streamed to the Mbombela Civic Centre, KaMashego Community Hall in Pienaar, KaBokweni Community Hall, KaNyamazane Stadium, and Manzini Community Hall near Masoyi.

Nkatha said the imbizo is a response to issues that have been raised repeatedly during previous imbizos and Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultations, particularly those held in April across the same areas. The consultations formed part of the final round of budget consultative engagements for the 2026/27 financial year before the draft document is presented to council for approval by the end of May, as per the process plan.

“We want to make the community aware that we are working and gathering budgets to respond to their calls for service delivery. We know Nsikazi communities need water, and this imbizo seeks to address that. We want to get to the source of the problem that hinders access to water, including issues reported in KaBokweni, and why water from bulk schemes does not reach communities,” he said.

Nkatha said the municipality aims to move beyond promises and focus on implementation, including the official handover of roads and the installation and repair of high-mast and street lights.

He said the intensive imbizo ensures that the municipality’s medium-term budget and projects align with community needs and the city’s Vision 2030.

“We encourage the community to make use of services available at the community halls, such as title deed applications and transfers, as well as spaza shop business registration,” Nkatha said.

Municipal field teams also carried out pothole repairs, gravel road grading, clean-up campaigns, and debushing operation
