Agriculture focuses on women and disability empowerment in Mpumalanga

Members of provincial departments of griculture from across the country visited several community based projects in Mpumalanga.

Members of provincial departments of agriculture from across the country attended the two-day National Women Co-ordinators Forum on May 22 and 23.
The forum focused on the empowerment of women and persons living with disabilities, with discussions centred on the needs of community projects, their growth potential and the support required to ensure sustainability.

On the first day, delegates visited several community-based projects, including the Tentele Disability Centre in Pienaar. The small-scale farming initiative supports more than 100 beneficiaries living with disabilities, and serves as a source of livelihood and empowerment for the local community.

They also visited Mara Farm near KaNyamazane, managed by Sibusiso Mogale. During the visit, Mogale shared valuable insights on the farm’s contribution to the local economy, highlighting its role in providing practical on-the-job training opportunities for tertiary students.

The second day of the forum focused on strengthening and advancing empowerment initiatives for women and people with disabilities across all nine provinces. The workshop also created a platform for delegates to exchange practices, discuss challenges and interventions, and explore programmes aimed at improving quality of life.
