Lowveld Walkers take a stand against violence
Community members walk four route options to mark Suicide Prevention Month and honour slain runner Elizabeth Moselakgomo.
The Lowveld Walkers took a stand against the brutal killings of women and raised awareness for Suicide Prevention Month on September 19.
They walked from Tekwane South to Airport Road and back, choosing from four distance options: 5km, 10km, 15km or 21km.
Founder condemns violence against women
The walking club’s founder, Joseph Mashaba, said the Lowveld Walkers refuse to normalise violence and the killing of women.

“We condemn the brutal killings of women. Every woman is a sister, a mother, an aunt, your colleague, neighbour and a human being – not just a body to kill and dump,” he said.

“We offer our condolences to families of those who have lost their loved ones in these senseless killings. We pray the numbers don’t increase. Sekwanele! [It is enough].”
Walk honours slain runner
The walk followed the discovery of the body of Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo (38) in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, on September 12 after she went missing during an afternoon run.

The Lowveld Walkers carried posters displaying a photo of her. Mashaba said experts spoke to the participants.
According to him, the community actively engaged with the club members as they walked the streets raising awareness.
