Leadership is for everyone

Leadership is everybody’s business. Whether they are aware of it or not, in one way or another, all human beings are leaders at some stage in life, by choice, luck or accident.

The main purpose for human beings to be created on earth, was to lead the development, protection, maintenance and sustenance of creation.

Human beings are born to lead; they exist to make things happen, to make a difference on earth, to add value and to leave a legacy wherever they are.

The subject of leadership cannot be taken for granted or be put aside for a few, selected and privileged individuals to research, debate and make pronouncements of their findings.

Being first in the row does not mean that you are a leader, and being at the back of the line does not mean that you are excluded from exercising leadership responsibilities. Leadership is everybody’s business, because it affects everyone daily, for good or for worse.

All problems in communities, societies and nations are direct indicators regarding the lack or absence of leadership. Where there is weak or poor leadership, there are problems; ranging from unemployment, rape, illiteracy, to crime, poverty or sociopolitical instability.

In reverse, leadership is at the heart and centre of the search, implementation and sustenance of any solution to human problems. All problems in society are indicators that there is lack of grounded leadership. Thus, no problem can be adequately and satisfactorily resolved until and unless the subject of leadership is resolved.

Let us all think leadership, talk leadership, walk leadership and live leadership. As you prepare for our next discussion, take time and ask yourself: How would you define what leadership is? What is it that leadership is not? What are, to you, the most important pillars of leadership? Until next time. Shalom.
