Banyana to learn AWC opponents on July 19

anyana will need to finish in the top three in the tournament to make the trip reach their first ever World Cup finals.

Banyana Banyana will learn who their 2014 African Women’s Championship (AWC) group opponents will be when the draw for the competition takes place in Windhoek on July 19, the Confederation of African Football have confirmed.

The AWC will be staged between October 11-25 and serves as the CAF qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Namibia will be just the fourth country – outside of South Africa, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea – to host the AWC.

Banyana will need to finish in the top three in the tournament to make the trip reach their first ever World Cup finals.

Aside from South Africa and hosts Namibia, the other six nations in the AWC finals are Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia.

The draw for the two first round pools of eight will be held at the Windhoek Country Club Resort.

Banyana were in action this past weekend, defeating Namibia 2-1 in a friendly.
