LIMPOPO – The Democratic Alliance has strongly condemned police brutality in the province.

This comes after officials shot and killed two more people in Relela Village outside Tzaneen on Tuesday, while community members were protesting against killing of a 15-year-old boy earlier in the same area.

“We condemn these killings and send our condolences to the families. The situation in Limpopo is becoming extremely volatile,” said the party’s premier candidate, Mr Langa Bodlani.

Bodlani was also addressing another protest that took place on Wednesday near Gamolepo Village, where the community barricaded roads and were preventing children from going to school. “Political tension in Limpopo is increasing at an alarming rate in Limpopo,” he added.

He alleged that members of the police were preventing people from voicing their discontent about service delivery; which made the tension even worse.

“The police must immediately stop acting violently. It is only inciting more violence.”

He said DA was challenging the police commissioner, Ms Riyah Phiyega to visit the affected communities in Tzaneen to explain police’s actions.

“Phiyega must take full responsibility for their actions. The people of Limpopo have lost faith in the SAPS,” he said.
