Pilgrim’s Rest to host World Gold Panning Champs in 2023

This will be the third time that Pilgrim's Rest has hosted the World Champs

South Africa has won the bid to host 2023 World Gold Panning Championships.

The competition will be held in Pilgrim’s Rest.

“We are delighted that the country’s bid to host the 2023 World Gold Panning Championships was successful,” said the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali. She made a virtual presentation on August 19 to the World Goldpanning Association Exco in the Czech Republic where this year’s championships are currently underway.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic travel restrictions, South Africa could not participate in the championships.

The championships will see the country host the spectacle for the third time. They were held in Pilgrim’s Rest in 2005 and 2012.

Come 2023, Pilgrim’s Rest will host gold panners from Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and USA.
