Gauteng farmer found stabbed to death and throat slit

Police urge anyone with information to come forward after a brutal murder and robbery incident at a Groenfontein farm.

Police are looking for information after a farmer was stabbed five times in the back and had his throat slit at a Groenfontein farm over the weekend.

Gauteng police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk says they were informed of the incident at around 18:15 yesterday, although it occurred the day before.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to the body by a man who had come to the property after failing to reach the farm owner the previous day. He discovered the body around 17:30 and immediately contacted the local police.

Emergency services were called and declared the farmer dead at the scene. The deceased had sustained approximately five stab wounds to the back, and his throat had been slit.

Items reported stolen included a Toyota Hilux bakkie, a cellphone, and a laptop, with a combined value of approximately R300 000. The stolen vehicle was later recovered on Arbor Road, where it was examined by crime scene experts and secured.

No suspect has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing. Van Dyk urges locals to provide any information that might help identify the killer, which can be directed to the Bronkhorstspruit SAPS.
