Singer asks public’s help to trace man after father-in-law’s attack in Pretoria

Appel’s father-in-law is currently being treated in hospital as police search for the suspect responsible for the assault.

Well-known Afrikaans singer Appel (Christoph Kotzé) has appealed to the public to help find the person responsible for a brutal assault on his father-in-law in the early morning hours of today.

According to Kotzé, his father-in-law Deon Gouws (63), attended a “nappy-braai” last night and went to Hennie’s in Montana afterwards. He left the restaurant just after midnight.

He said someone in a silver Nissan Navara started following his father-in-law. He fired three shots at Gouws before bumping into his vehicle and hitting him in the face with his firearm.

Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk told Pretoria Rekord that Gouws was assaulted on Sefako Makgatho Drive, between Visvanger Street and the N1 at around 00:15.

He confirmed that police are currently looking for the suspect.

On his official Appel Facebook page, Kotzé requested members of the public who can assist with information to send him information via Facebook Messenger or to contact the Sinoville police.

The suspect has been identified as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, driving a silver Nissan Navara with no number plate on the back and a paper number plate in the back window.

In an update Kotzé said his father-in-law is being monitored in hospital while they await treatment from a specialist.

He thanked the Sinoville police for their fast and professional assistance.

The newspaper reached out to Kotzé for comment, but none was received at the time of publishing.
