The SAPS Crime Intelligence and Tracking Team have been mobilised to track two suspects wanted in connection with the murder of a police officer on Saturday, reports Benoni City Times.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili says the warrant officer attached to the Johannesburg Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management Unit returned to his home in Alliance Ext 2, Benoni, just after 20:30 when the men gained entry to the residence.

“The police officer was sitting inside with his wife and a relative when the suspects entered,” she says.

“The victim sustained two fatal gunshot wounds, and the suspects fled the scene on foot. The motive for the killing is currently under investigation.”

Muridili states that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation will be investigating the matter and urged anyone with information to contact SAPS CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS app.
