Crispy air fryer dunked wings

The air fryer's capacity for multiple wing batches means you can easily feed a crowd without spending hours in the kitchen.

There’s something undeniably satisfying about biting into a perfectly cooked chicken wing – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavour. And when it comes to achieving that ideal balance of texture and taste, the air fryer has emerged as a game-changer.

Gone are the days of greasy, calorie-laden wings that leave you feeling weighed down. With an air fryer, you can enjoy all the deliciousness of traditional fried wings with a fraction of the guilt. By circulating hot air around the food, air fryers produce that coveted crispy exterior without the need for excessive oil. Not only does this result in a healthier dish, but it also means less mess and hassle in the kitchen – making air fryer wings a win-win. Recipe compliments of Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • Chicken wings
  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Spices: Garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper.
  • Olive oil

For the sauce:

  • Soy sauce
  • Brown sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Rice vinegar

Method

  1. Bread the chicken: Combine the flour with a teaspoon each onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika and salt. In a separate bowl, combine the bread crumbs with the same spices and whisk the eggs in a separate bowl. Coat the chicken first in the flour, then in the beaten egg and finally in the bread crumbs. Press the crumbs into the chicken to thoroughly coat each wing.
  2. Air fry: Place the chicken wings in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Spray or drizzle with olive oil then air fry at 205°C/400°F for 20 minutes, turning over half way through cooking, until the chicken is crisp and golden and cooked through.
  3. Make the sauce: While the chicken is cooking, combine all the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan set over medium-high heat. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce has reduced slightly.
  4. Toss the cooked chicken wings in the sauce and serve immediately.
