Savour the classic elegance of a Manhattan cocktail

Elevate your cocktail game with the Manhattan, a true classic that balances the boldness of whiskey with the subtle nuances of vermouth.

Step into the world of timeless sophistication with the Manhattan cocktail. This classic concoction, with its origins dating back to the late 19th century, has stood the test of time and remains a beloved choice among cocktail enthusiasts.

Whether you’re enjoying a quiet evening at home or out on the town, the Manhattan is your gateway to experiencing the rich, complex harmony of whiskey, vermouth, and bitters.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 30 ml sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish
  • Orange or lemon twist for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. In a mixing glass, add the rye whiskey or bourbon, sweet vermouth, and two dashes of Angostura bitters.
  2. Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes, then stir the mixture well using a long-handled bar spoon. Stir for about 30 seconds to ensure proper dilution and chilling.
  3. Remove the ice from your chilled glass and strain the stirred Manhattan cocktail into it.
  4. Garnish your Manhattan with a maraschino cherry. Optionally, you can also express the oils from a lemon or orange twist over the cocktail by giving it a quick twist and placing it in the glass for a subtle citrus aroma.

Note: You can choose between rye whiskey or bourbon for your Manhattan, depending on your preference. Rye tends to add a spicier kick, while bourbon offers a slightly sweeter profile. Adjust the proportions of vermouth and bitters to fine-tune the balance to your taste.
