1 462 confirmed Covid 19 infections as of Thursday evening

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said there were 82 new infections recorded since Tuesday, taking the tally to 1 462.

South Africa now has 1 462 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and officials were still waiting on clarification on reports that there have been two more deaths as a result of infections, the Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Thursday evening.

This is an increase of 82 new cases since Mkhize announced the figures on Wednesday.

“The President wants to see beds being made available. Where we need to create new facilities we will do so. We are looking to make as many beds available as possible. There will obviously be many discussions going on,” Mkhize said.

He urged all South-Africans to be ready.

“The flu season is coming. People must keep warm and avoid being exposed to cold. Those who want to take anything to boost their immunity, we encourage them. People must do anything that will make them stronger and healthier.”

He added that the symptoms of flu are the same as Covid-19.

“We are calling on all hospitals to reduce the number of patients. So they don’t need to be in hospital. We are ready to fight and must be prepared. This is the calm before the storm. We must make sure we prepare so the storm never really ends up happening.”
