2 Mozambican women come under fire on Mbombela highway

Gunmen opened fire on a car in which two women were travelling, forcing them to stop their vehicle.

Two Mozambican women had multiple shots fired at the vehicle they were travelling in on the N4 in Mpumalanga, near the Karino turn-off, on Monday night.

Nelspruit Police Station spokesperson Captain Zandile Gqawa says police are investigating a case of armed robbery.

She explains that the women were driving from Mozambique to Johannesburg when the incident occurred.

When the women reached the Karino turn-off, the suspects flicked their vehicle’s lights at them, signalling them to stop.

The women sped up and the robbers reportedly shot at their tyres, forcing them to a stop. The victims locked all of the doors, says Gqawa.

“The [robbers] broke one window and opened the car door. They robbed them of their clothes, cash and cellphones and fled the scene in their unidentified car,” she says.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact Lieutenant Colonel Dudu Shabangu on 082 469 2431.
