Wake up to warm, ready-made oats

Oats are an ideal breakfast option because they contain fibre-rich carbohydrates that help provide steady energy through the morning.

Delay Start Oats are ideal for rushed mornings. You add the oats, milk, boiling water and a pinch of salt to your Instant Pot the night before and then set the timer so breakfast cooks later. By the time you wake up, you have a warm, creamy bowl ready to go.

Oats contain fibre, including beta-glucan, which helps keep you fuller for longer. They also provide slow-release carbohydrates for steady energy, plus useful nutrients such as magnesium, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Recipe compliments of Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup low-fat milk
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • Pinch of salt
  • Toppings (nut butter, seeds, fruit, honey, cinnamon or nuts)

Method

  1. Spray the inner pot of the Instant Pot with cooking oil spray, then add in oats, water and salt. Secure the lid and set it to Pressure Cook for 2 mins on low pressure.
  2. Press your delay start or timer button and set the timer for the amount of time you want to delay the cook time.
  3. After cooking, allow a 10 to 15 minute natural release. Stir well, then serve with your favourite toppings.
