Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi survives Vosloorus shooting

Oupa ‘Brown’ Mogotsi, who is due to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, escaped unharmed after gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.

Businessman and alleged political fixer Oupa ‘Brown’ Mogotsi has survived a shooting after his vehicle came under heavy gunfire in Vosloorus, Boksburg, last night.

According to an article published by The Witness, reports indicate that unknown gunmen opened fire on Mogotsi’s car, which was later found riddled with reportedly eight bullet holes.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says that a thorough investigation will take place and that a case of attempted murder has been opened.

Talking to the eNCA, Madlanga Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that Mogotsi had not been injured and that it was his car that had been shot at.

Michaels said the commission is ‘deeply concerned’ about Mogotsi’s safety as he is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating allegations of political interference, corruption and collusion within the criminal justice system.

“We’ve been in touch with Mogotsi regarding his protection as recently as yesterday. It is, of course, up to an individual witness whether he or she accepts the protection that is offered,” Michaels said.

“But from our side, we are doing everything within our power to ensure that all witnesses are safe and, where necessary, protected.”

Mogotsi’s name has surfaced multiple times in the Madlanga Commission and in Parliament’s ad hoc committee hearings probing KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s claims of political interference.

Mkhwanazi previously alleged that Mogotsi possessed insider knowledge of police operations, including details about the controversial disbandment of the Provincial KZN Tactical Task Team. He also linked Mogotsi to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, alleging that the businessman acted as an intermediary in politically motivated dealings.

Authorities are expected to release further details once the investigation progresses.
