Durban student stabbed during live Facebook study session

Berea police have opened a case of assault following an altercation between two university students that was captured live on social media.

A disturbing incident was captured live on Facebook when a 22-year-old Durban University of Technology student was assaulted and stabbed, allegedly by a fellow student, at their residence at the main Steve Biko campus in Durban last week.

The victim, who was live-streaming a study session from her room, can be heard in a video obtained by The Witness, shouting at her attacker as she attempts to lock the door.

Chaos ensues as the victim struggles to fend off her attacker, and she’s heard screaming for help while other students enquire about the cause of the blood.

Following the ordeal, the student revealed in a subsequent video that she had received medical attention and pleaded for prayers.

“I ask myself how I managed to fight her off while she was on top of me. I am putting everything in the hands of the police, and I hope that justice will be served,” she says.
