Search for missing KZN girl ends in devastating discovery

The community of Shaka’s Head in KZN is mourning the loss of one of their own after a 6-year-old girl who was reported missing was found dead yesterday.

The body of Minenhle Khumalo was discovered at around 16:00, a week after she went missing from her home.

She was found by a passerby in the bushes next to an open parking area between Shaka’s Head and the N2 highway. This, after Umhlali SAPS officers and members of the community searched the surrounding area throughout the day.

Khumalo was found naked from the waist down, and it is suspected she was assaulted before being killed.

The cause of death has been confirmed, and a full postmortem will be done in the coming days.

Khumalo went missing in the early hours of July 2, after she had been left alone at home while her parents went to help douse the nearby fire, which razed 16 shacks.

Her mother, Nompumelelo, says the house was locked, but upon her return, a window was found open, and Minenhle was gone.
