Murder-accused Tiffany Meek’s case moves to Johannesburg High Court

During today’s short court session, it was revealed that Tiffany Nicole Meek – who is accused of murdering her son – was attacked in prison.

The case of murder-accused Tiffany Nicole Meek (31) has been transferred to the Johannesburg High Court.

Roodepoort Record reports that Meek, who is accused of murdering her son Jayden-Lee, appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court today.

The matter will continue in the Johannesburg High Court for pre-trial on November 20.

During the court session, defence attorney Noven Naidoo revealed that he will no longer be representing Meek due to financial constraints, and she will go the legal aid route.

Naidoo also revealed that Meek was attacked in prison and sustained two wounds on her hand and received medical attention.

He also added that she has been threatened, and she has tried reporting the issues to the prison wardens, but nothing has been done.

Meek was denied bail in July and has remained in custody since.

She is facing charges of crimen injuria, attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice, and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.

The case has gripped the community since May, when Jayden-Lee was reported missing on May 13. His family sounded the alarm after he failed to return home from school.

What followed was a frantic search that ended in heartbreak.

On May 14, his half-naked body was found near the staircase of the Swazi Place complex, just metres from his home.

The court previously heard that Jayden-Lee had suffered a blunt-force head injury, and that his belongings – including his schoolbag, shoes and red school jacket – were found at unit 13, where Meek resides.

During her bail application, Magistrate Anneline Africa described Meek as manipulative and dishonest, stressing that her version of events was inconsistent.

She raised suspicions about the timing of Meeks’ movements, noting that her return home on the very same day Jayden’s body was found was ‘no coincidence’.

The magistrate also added that Meek presented as untruthful and dishonest in her bail statement and is capable of influencing witnesses and manipulating evidence.

Meek will remain in custody.
