Video: Truck driver dies crashing into 2 houses near Pietermaritzburg

A truck driver who crashed into two houses last night was still stuck in his vehicle at 10:00 this morning.

A truck crashed into two houses in Thornville, near Pietermaritzburg, killing the driver and causing injuries to six people in the houses last night.

The vehicle was travelling on the R56 towards Richmond.

According to the neighbours, the incident took place at 21:00.

By 10:00 this morning, the driver was still stuck in the truck and the vehicle was still stuck in the second house into which it had crashed.

Emergency services were still at the scene.

The truck was carrying wood.

“Four people – two adults and two children are from the same family – and a mother and a child are from the second family,” says a neighbour.

“It was so traumatic and we are still traumatised.”
