VIDEO AND GALLERY: Joburg residents get colourful at the Color Run

EMMARENTIA – Residents dressed in crazy outfits get splashed with different colours.

Over 10 000 residents did not allow the weather condition to deter them from participating in this year’s exciting 5km Color Run held at Roosevelt High School on 20 September.

The Color runners happily went from wearing plain white clothing to being covered in prismatic colours.

At each kilometre mark, a different colour of powder filled the air and covered the participants, creating an ever-increasing spectrum of colours and beauty.

The aim of the race was not to win, but to have as much colourful fun as possible.

After the race, runners enjoyed the festival and the air was filled with a variety of vivid colour combinations as participants got involved in the colour throwing fun.

The event organiser, Leon Swanepoel, explained that the event was the biggest in Joburg.

“The number of participants doubled. We are extremely satisfied with the venue and it is easy to clean after the event,” Swanepoel said.

He further explained that the race was a stand-alone event with its unique recognition.

“There are marathon and other events of a similar nature in the country but they are not as unique as this one,” he concluded.

Craig Mclennan, the national coordinator, said their event was getting people out of their homes to the field. “We aim to get people out, to get healthy and be happy,” he said.

He concluded that the response from Joburg was getting better every year.

“People are dressed up in crazy outfits having fun, at the same time doing 5km of exercise so it’s a combined effect,” concluded Mclennan.
