Bomb threat at Clearwater Mall

Clearwater Mall MARKETING manager Cecile Braun said the mall received a phone call at about 10am from a man saying he had planted four bombs on the property, Roodepoort Record reported.

“We immediately contacted the Honeydew police,” said Braun.

“It is standard procedure to evacuate the building given such a threat, and we did so,” added Braun.

“We can confirm that there has been a bomb threat at Clearwater Mall,” ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“The mall has been evacuated due to the threat. As far as we know, the bomb disposal unit and dog unit are on the scene.”More to follow.

Last month, a woman was arrested for phoning in about a false bomb threat at a primary school in Mpumalanga.

The 59-year-old woman allegedly phoned Laerskool Oranjegloed in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on February 3 and warned about a bomb on the school’s premises.

The school then contacted police and the pupils’ parents.

All the pupils gathered on the rugby field and waited for their parents while police and the K9 unit searched the school.

However, no bomb was found on the school’s grounds.

Police later traced the cellphone from which the call was made and arrested the woman in Kinross, outside Secunda.
