Burglars rob Miss Lira’s home
Opening for R Kelly earlier this week was meant to be one of many career highlights for Lerato Molapo, aka Miss Lira.
But after attending a Women’s Day function Molape and her husband returned home at about midnight to find thieves hard at work stealing her hard won South African Music Award (SAMA) statuettes.
Molapo opened for R&B sensation R Kelly earlier this week. He is touring South Africa as part of his Single Ladies tour. The tour was slated to happen in March but was postponed to August, apparently because local promoter AfroPulse Entertainment needed more time to organise logistics.
Nonetheless, the concert eventually happened on Women’s Day. After the concert, fan Miranda Tshifhiwa tweeted to Miss Lira, ‘I really enjoyed your performance last night at the R Kelly Concert. You make me proud to be a South African’.
The next tweet by Molapo says it all, “My house was robbed last night. 10 of my SAMA statuettes were taken along with so many other valuables. So heartbroken :( ‘.
Some of the awards won by the local singing sensation include:
- 2004 Channel O Reel Music Award Winner
- 2007 SAMA for Best Music Video
- 2008 SAMA for Best Selling Download, Best Music Video
- 2009 SAMA for Best Female Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Album, Best Album of the Year, Best Remix of the Year
- 2010 SAMA for Best Female Artist, Best Global Chart DVD (Live in Concert: A Celebration)
- 2010 Feather Awards Winner
- 2011 Channel O Music Video Award for Most Gifted Female Video
- 2013 SAMA for Best Live DVD
This is the second high profile housebreaking case this week, with Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s house being burgled while his wife Leah was asleep in their home in the Western Cape.
