The toddler’s who tango

ROOSEVELT PARK- Toddler's show off their ballroom dancing skills.

La Habanera Dance Club (based in Roosevelt Park) recently hosted a toddler tango competition for children from eight crèches across Region B including some from Westbury, Brixton and Westdene.

Musician Bashir Lawrence provided entertainment and kept the seventy-two toddler couples busy dancing while parents and teachers cheered them on.

Several Officials from City of Johannesburg, Department of Sports and Recreation and from the Department of Health attended and all one hundred and forty-four dancers were rewarded with medals sponsored by the Federation of Dance Sport South Africa (FEDANSA). The final seven couples won trophies for their respective crèches.

Ballroom dancing is not accessible to the masses and the vision of FEDANSA is to take the sport to schools, where it is possible for all to participate. This event was the first baby steps towards this goal.
