Cyclist knocks over child

EMMARENTIA- Little girl falls victim to cyclists speeding ways.

Cyclists can be road hogs too.

A cyclist sped along the bridge of the Emmarentia Dam and knocked over a four-year-old child taking an evening walk with her family on 22 October. The child was bloodied and bruised rather badly and her father was, understandably, very angry.

The cyclist zoomed past at such a speed that she did not see the little girl until it was too late.

“This is not a place for cyclists, it’s a walkway,” said an Emmarentia resident who witnessed the incident.

“Believe it or not, I am a cyclist too. But I would never ride there because it’s just too dangerous. There are always pedestrians and fishermen out at that time, along with the benches there is just not enough space for bicycles to come through as well.”
